York Gin has gone one better than its silver medal in the Gin Masters - and won a gold medal at the People’s Drinks Awards 2018. 

The company has won top place for its increasingly famous cat and castle branding.

The York company - which only started trading in March this year - beat strong competition to come top in The People’s Drinks Awards - Gin 2018. 

In a statement, the awards said: “We had more entrants and more judges than ever and competition was tight. We only give out seven awards each year.” 

They are the only awards to be judged solely by the general public - which means the York Gin brand has the potential to boost the city’s image. 

York Gin Director Emma Godivala said: “We think this is a brilliant award for the city, as well as for York Gin. 

“We’re thrilled that all the research and work that has gone into the brand has paid off. Our brand reflects our motto - History in the tasting - and everything about the brand says York.  From the cat - one of the city’s chief emblems - to the sturdy bottles and the walls. And all our gins are a testimony of the city’s history:

 

“York Gin Cocoa celebrates our chocolate heritage. 
“York Gin Roman Fruit is a nod to Constantine the Great, Eboracum and all that.
“Our work with the JORVIK Viking Centre to create a gin with botanicals that grew around Coppergate during the city’s Viking era. 
“Add to this our classic London Dry gin has all the botanicals that were available during the Gin Craze and you can see why we’re being recognised.
“Everyone at York Gin loves our city and this shows in everything we do. From supporting local schools, St Leonard’s Hospice and York Cats Protection, to making sure we attend as many local events as possible.”

According to the awards: “Judges complete blind tasting before making their final decisions after looking at product branding and brand story.”

“We love this idea of consumers championing their favourite products and brands, - who is better placed to judge than the customers who actually buy drinks?” says the contest’s co-founder, Henry Hutton.

The gold medal follows York Gin’s silver at the Spirits Business Gin Masters in the summer. The company were recognised on the Super Premium Category in the prestigious awards run by The Spirits Business - the world’s leading spirits magazine. The Masters attract entries from around the world.
