The Bloody York Gin Tour

We recommend this tour - it's completely different and a thoroughly entertaining way to appreciate York's macabre history. And enjoy three great serves of York Gin in three of the city's best bars and pubs.  It's really not like any other gin tour.

Led by award-winning ‘Mad Alice’ - one of the most popular tour guides in the city, according to TripAdvisor.

The Bloody York Gin Tour is a unique two-hour walking and gin-drinking tour, mixing horrible history and restorative York Gins at three bars along the route.

It follows the stories of the city’s most notorious and lesser-known outlaws including Guy Fawkes, Dick Turpin and ‘The Yorkshire Witch’, Mary Bateman.

The tour price of £35 includes 3 different single York Gin & tonics, including the super-strength York Gin Outlaw, a tribute to the city’s baddies.

The tour is in the centre of the city York, within the city walls.

Distillery visits

You can pop in on spec just to say hello and buy gin from the distillery. We are usually in but best to call first.

The distillery - about a 10 minute drive of York - is a glorified chicken shed. (Note: There are no chickens any more - and we’ve actually made it look quite nice, but be please aware it’s a working distillery.)

You are welcome to pop into the distillery on spec and we will happily show you around (if we’re not actually making gin, talking on the phone, dealing with deliveries, or out! - it's a good idea to call first 01904 848900).

You can

  • Buy bottles of York Gin at 10% discount of website price
  • Order engraved bottles of York Gin at 10% discount

We can't guarantee we will be making gin (our schedule changes daily)  - but you might very well, especially during the day.

York Gin is a traditional, working gin distillery and isn't a gin bar. It really was a chicken shed, surrounded by other chicken sheds!

If you want to make your own gin - there are lots of Gin Schools in Yorkshire - Rare Bird in Malton, Hothams in Hull, Slingsby’s in Harrogate - which are all excellent.

We’re a couple of miles from the centre of York. An easy taxi ride, about 10 minutes from the centre of York. A bike ride is good on the back roads, public transport is a bit lacking.
